Munster Junior Cup: Ennis 36 Clonmel 10
Last weekend the Clonmel Seconds team travelled to Ennis for the Munster Junior Cup last weekend, but were no match for a strong and slick Ennis outfit.
Ennis got the ideal start, with the winger touching down in the corner for the opening try after just four minutes. Stung by this reverse, Clonmel piled on the pressure in search of a score and they closed the gap when Ross Slattery landed a penalty.
Ennis came storming back and they struck for their second try midway through the first half. The home side’s full back scored their third try in the 35th minute, which was converted to push the home team 17-3 clear.
The game was in first half injury time when Ennis scored again, with their centre getting his second and the team’s fourth try, which saw them take a 22-3 lead to the break.
The second half was more balanced. However, chances of a comeback were foiled when Ennis crossed the line after eight minutes, which was converted. Then two minutes from the end of normal time they added another try and conversion for a score of 36-3.
Clonmel battled to the end and in the final play of the game, deep in injury time, prop forward Brendan Delicato got over for their only try. Ross Slattery added the points with the final play of the game.
