Caitlin Shippam won the Munster Women’s and Girls Senior Open Championship last April
A very successful year on the golf course for talented teenager Caitlin Shippam has been rewarded with an Annerville sports award.
The Ballykisteen member won the Munster Women’s and Girls Senior Open Championship in April. With rounds of 79, 76 and 73 and winning by four shots in what was a very strong field, 16-year-old Caitlin had every reason to be very proud of her victory.
Her final round of 73 was the best of the week and saw her finish on plus 12, four shots clear of overnight leader Emily Murray from Co Louth.
She made her move in the final round with three birdies in her opening seven holes. The Ireland Girls’ international only dropped her first shot of the round on the eleventh, as she secured the provincial crown.
The previous month she was selected on the Irish Girls’ team that played Wales in an international match at Cardigan Golf Club.
She helped Ireland beat Wales over the two-day event, winning on the 17th on day one and being called into the action again on the second day.
Caitlin and the other Annerville winners will be presented with their awards by the Tipperary United Sports Panel at a function in the Talbot Hotel Clonmel tomorrow night, Saturday, January 21.
