On Sunday, January 15, an historic event took place in Tipperary town with the first ladies snooker final held at the Tipperary Club in James Street.
The two finalists were Nicola O’Connell, Tipperary Town, and Maria Lee from Clonmel.
Nicola shaded the first frame, with Maria edging the second in another close call. The final and deciding frame was a classic needing a re-spotted black to separate those magnificent snooker players. Maria potted that black to become the very first winner of a ladies final in the club and the proud winner of the Carey Cup.
Nicola, who played some great snooker on the night, will surely not have to wait long before her turn comes.
It was an historic occasion for the club and watched by a large and appreciative attendance.
