Category win for Willie O'Donoghue in the John Treacy Dungarvan 10 Mile

Francis Morrison and Willie O'Donoghue were among the athletes who represented Mooreabbey Milers AC at the John Treacy Dungarvan 10 Mile

The John Treacy Dungarvan 10 Mile, a race that has soared in popularity as one of the must run spring 10 mile races, took place last Sunday morning.

Four Mooreabbey Milers Athletic Club members travelled to the Deise county for the 31st running of the annual event.

The race started on the Youghal Road, with a short loop around Mitchell Street and Collins Road and back out the Youghal Road through the roundabout, before continuing down to the main road, taking a right and out past the old glass factory.

From there the runners headed out towards Bushy Park and took a left down to the canal road, coming out at Ring Cross.

The Mooreabbey club men and ladies then proceeded back in the Youghal road, turning left at GSK, before finishing in the industrial estate at the back of Eurofins Laboratories.

A small crew of the Mooreabbey's purple and white club toed the line and put in some admirable performances and some great personal bests.

Willie O'Donoghue ran home in 60 minutes flat and took a category win. Francis Morrisson crossed the finish line in 10-plus minutes, which was faster than his last year, while Marie O’Shea and Mary O'Connell also ran well.
