Doodle 4Google finalists

Google use the homepage logo designs, or doodles, to celebrate different people, events or special dates. These doodles are usually created by Google web designers. However, for the third year running Irish students have been invited to create their own doodle.The winner will have their doodle, based this year on the theme happiness is..........displayed for 24 hours on the Google homepage, as well as winning a laptop and technology grant for their school.

Congratulations to Mohamed Elkanzi (Fifth Year) and Ryan Lynch (Second Year) who were selected as regional finalists in this very competitive national competition.

Academic Excellence

Well done to Kevin Landers who completed his Leaving Certificate in the High School last year. He is to be the recipient of an award from the president of Waterford Institute of Technology to mark his excellent achievement in the Leaving Certificate examination at a special reception in the College next Wednesday, 16th.


The under 19 badminton team took part in the county championships in Templemore and qualified for the Munster Final, which took place in UL. They continued their winning ways here and are now through to the All-Ireland finals. Well done to the team of Jaco Oosthuysen, Darren Blanche, Liam McCarthy and Darren Cass. The team is managed by Roger Corcoran.

Athletics Success

The school cross country team travelled to Thurles for the county cross country championships. The Minor team were led home by Patrick Cleary in 6th place followed by Anthony Tobin, Aaron Egan and Gavin Ryan in 8th, 9th and 11th respectively. Dylan Kennedy and Patrick Loyola ran brilliantly to also finish in the top 20. The Junior boys were next up and they all ran very well, winning silver team medals. The team was Damon Gregory, Nicky Kavanagh, Liam Powell and Michael O'Doherty. The Intermediate boys won the team title easily. Sean Tobin led the team home in 1st place followed by Micheal Carey 2nd, Reece Maher 4th and James Murphy 5th. There were also excellent runs by Evan Egan, Stijn Van Der Wal, Alex Chadfield and Patryk Bardas.

The Senior boys all ran well and were led home by Robbie Flynn, 6th and he was followed home by Aidan Cremins, Cormac O'Riordan and Jack Devanney in 8th, 9th and 17th respectively and this allowed the team to win a silver medal. The school tied with Thurles CBS to claim the shield as best overall school. This is the second year in a row that the High School has won the shield and the athletes hope to do a three in-a-row next year. Kathleen Deeley managed all teams.
