Deputy Tom Hayes has been elected chairman of the Joint Oireachtas Administration Committee - the committee with responsibility for the running of the houses of the Oireachtas.
The Administration Committee looks after all aspects of the Dail and Seanad day-to-day operations, including access for visitors, protocol for visiting dignitaries, media access, broadcasting from the Dail and will consider proposals to set up a dedicated Dail channel where people can watch debates live from the Dail chamber.
Deputy Hayes told The Nationalist that he wants to open up the houses of the Oireachtas to the public. “It’s the people’s parliament and I want to make it far more accessible to members of the public, schools, the press. There is a lot of potential there.”
