An information evening on Suicide Awareness will be held on Monday, November 12 at 7pm in Hotel Minella, Clonmel.
The evening, which is free and open to all members of the public, is being organised by Clonmel man Joe Leahy in association with the Irish Association of Suicidology. This is the second such evening organised by Joe and follows a very well-attended information evening held last April.
Joe explained that the aim of the evening is to help and support people cope with the trauma of suicide, whether directly or indirectly affected.
“A sudden death by suicide affects the whole community and it is vital for individuals, families and communities to be able to support each other at this very traumatic time” said Joe, a long-time member of the Irish Association of Suicidology.
Speakers on the evening include Dan Neville, President of the Irish Association of Suicidology; Mike Hayes, who lost his son to suicide; Ms Gill Leo, Branch Director of Carlow/Kilkenny Samaritans and Padraig McMorrow, Secondary School Teacher, Guidance Counsellor and Chair of Kilkenny Suicide Bereavement Support Service.
Information will also be available from various support organisations including the Samaritans, Console, One Life, AWARE, Suicide or Survive, the H.S.E. and St Vincent de Paul .
For further information or details, contact Joe Leahy on 086 2606988.
All are very welcome to attend
