The 40 teams already entered for this year’s Relay for Life Tipperary are busily making preparing for the event which takes place in Toomevara on the weekend of 24/25 August.
Well over 1,000 people will take part directly as members of teams and over 100 cancer survivors will play a central role in the event.
Two thirds of the money raised by Relay is used to provide better facilities and treatment for cancer sufferers in Co Tipperary, and the remaining third goes towards research into finding a cure for cancer and finding better treatments.
Chairperson Jerry Cronin said that Relay for Life is all about HOPE – the hope that one day we will have a world without cancer, that we will find a cure for cancer, and that patients who are diagnosed with cancer will have better treatments and outcomes.
One of the most poignant events at every Relay for Life is the CANDLE OF HOPE ceremony which takes place as darkness begins to fall. Last year, 4,000 Candles of Hope were dedicated by people all over the county to someone they know who has been touched by cancer.
