Tipperary County Council has approved the handing over of land and buildings at Market Yard in Cahir to the Cahir Development Association.
The Association has been granted a fifteen year lease on the property but have sought a longer lease.
At the first meeting of Tipperary County Council held in Clonmel, Cllr. Andy Mooloney told officials that a problem had been identified with the roof of the building and the Association believed a ninety nine year lease would be more appropriate to allow them carry out developments on the building.
“If we look for a loan and want to develop the property fifteen years is not much good to us,” said Cllr. Moloney who called on officials to consider extending the lease period as they believed the fifteen year lease was not long enough.
County Manager Joe McGrath said that if it became clear that the fifteen year lease was an impediment to securing funds the matter would be reviewed.
