Best of local talent will be on stage at Clancy Festival

Carrick-on-Suir’s theatres and concert venues will showcase the best of local music talent during the Clancy Brothers Music & Arts Festival from May 27 to June 1.

Carrick-on-Suir’s theatres and concert venues will showcase the best of local music talent during the Clancy Brothers Music & Arts Festival from May 27 to June 1.

Tickets for the Festival’s Songwriting Competition final concert and the Hits from the Musical Show at the Strand Theatre are on sale while tickets for the three concerts and drama production planned for Brewery Lane Theatre go on sale at Carrick Heritage Centre from next Wednesday, May 6.

The Festival will kick off with a variety concert bursting with music, songs and stories at Brewery Lane on Wednesday, May 27.

The show will feature performances by Marietta O’Keefe, Dave Cooney and Tony Hogan, Panie Bartley, Caroline and Chris O’Brien, Helen and Tony Fitzgerald, Maria O’Shea Enright, Mala Raggett, Marie Walsh and Jane Loughlin, Seán Callaghan, and Kate Barry.

The concert starts at 8.15pm and tickets are €12.

Members of the extended Clancy family and friends will take to the Brewery Lane Stage on Friday, May 29 for a rousing night of music and song.

Finbarr Clancy of the High Kings, Roisin Clancy and Ryland Teifi, Dónal Clancy and Colm Power will be among the guest performers.

The Clancy Family Concert begins at 8.15pm and tickets cost €15. The Dúnaill Choir returns to Brewery Lane on Saturday, May 30 to perform unique arrangements of Celtic music with a classical twist. The show begins at 8.15pm and tickets cost €10. Celebrating 60 years of drama, the Brewery Lane Players will present Teresa Deevy’s one-act play “In Search of Valour” for the Festival’s popular lunchtime theatre.

The play, directed by Roseanne Glascott, runs from Friday, May 29 to Sunday, May 31 at 1pm. Tickets cost €12 and include a light lunch. To book tickets for all Brewery Lane Festival events contact the Heritage Centre at (051) 640200.

Over at the Strand Theatre, Carrick-on-Suir Musical Society will present ‘Hits from the Musicals’ on Saturday, May 30. Liam Butler will produce the show that wil be a showcase of popular show hits. The concert begins at 8pm and tickets cost €15 from the Strand Theatre, tel: (051) 645050.

The Clancy Brothers Songwriting Competition concert final will be staged in the Nano Nagle Centre Chapel. The event will feature this year’s three finalists and last year’s winner, Lisa Loughrey and the Mariannes. It will be an inspiring finish to a day of anniversary celebrations at the Nano Nagle Centre. The winner will be announced during the show. With partners including the Irish Music Rights Organisation, Music Matters Ireland and InMusik, the competition is fast becoming one of the most prestigious in Ireland. The concert begins at 7pm and tickets are €10 from the Tudor Artisan Hub, (051) 645921.
