Tipperary Pride Festival takes place this Saturday
Tipperary Pride Festival hosts events which is open to everyone especially those in the LGBTQ community. Pride is celebrated annually in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots, and works to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ).
In recent years there has been growing number of homophobic attacks in Ireland. This was made evident last year as Tipperary Pride was subjected to online bullying and face to face bullying at last years organised events and it is hoped that this year will run off without any incidents.
Everything, as in other years, is geared towards providing family entertainment. From music to circus acts to bouncy castles and face painting; all these events, which were approved by Tipperary county Council, were hosted over last 4 years in a safe space and we hope to continue in a safe environment.
This years there is a book signing at The Bookworm shop in Thurles on Saturday June 10th of 'The Gay Bible' by Sinead Huggins Young at 2pm. Following that event the 'Body Confidence Heels' dance class takes place at Barretts Coachyard Inn at 3pm.
There is then a parade from the town park at 6pm (weather permitting) and the main event is at 7pm in Barretts Coachyard Inn where a variety of events will be happening.
Tickets for all events can be got on eventbrite website or at this link https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/tipperary-pride-fest-tickets-637946363747?aff=ebdssbdestsearch or at the door on the night. For anymore information please call Evelyn on 0862642892.
