Loughmore’s Brian Gleeson has had a season to remember so far and it has got even better.
Showing a maturity beyond his years the up and coming 19-year-old star played a key role for the Ireland Under 20's as they romped to the Grand Slam in spring time while he won two Player of the Match awards along the way.
Ahead of his trip to South Africa, where Ireland will compete for the Under 20 rugby world cup, Brian has signed for Munster Rugby and will join the Munster Academy next season.
Brian is a former rugby player with Thurles RFC and is a past pupil of Rahealty National School and Rockwell College, where he honed his rugby skills. He also played hurling and gaelic football with Loughmore-Castleiney GAA club.
The teenage rugby sensation also represented his county in hurling too before focusing full time on rugby. The powerful back-row forward has been involved in Munster underage sides for a number of years and featured for Garryowen in Division 1A of the AIL this season.
Munster Rugby confirmed five new additions to the Greencore Academy ahead of the 2023/24 season. The new Academy recruits are Dylan Hicks, Shay McCarthy, Cork All-Ireland Under 20 hurling medalist Ben O’Connor as well as Brian and his Ireland U20 Grand Slam winning teammate George Hadden.
Brian will now focus on the 12-team World Rugby U20 Championship which is held in South Africa from 24 June to 14 July. Huge congrats to Brian on yet another fantastic achievement, and we look forward to more success this summer.
