Hollywood actor Sam Neill visited Fethard during the week on his whistle stop tour of Ireland.
Famous for his leading roles in films such as Jurassic Park, the Piano, the Dish and BBC’s The Tudors, Sam is no stranger to Ireland. He was born in Omagh and spent the first six years of his life in Ireland before returning to his father’s homeland of New Zealand.
Although he has spent much time working as an actor in Ireland, this trip was about his other job, which is promoting the wine from his own vineyard, ‘Two Paddocks’ in Otago on New Zealand’s South Island. He was accompanied on his visit to Fethard by one of the Irish agents for his wine, Clonmel man Gary Gubbins of Red Nose Wine. They stopped first at Coolmore Stud to see the great stallion Galileo, before heading to McCarthy’s for a wine tasting and some lunch, which he obviously enjoyed as he gave his visit to Fethard the ‘thumbs up’ on his Twitter site, @twopaddocks, a few days later.
