Thurles Credit Union supports the Moyne Road residents in their efforts

Brian King ( CEO Thurles Credit Union ) and Amanda Ryan ( Chairperson Thurles Credit Union) with Moyne Road Residents last week to celebrate the arrival of the 8 new planters.

The Moyne Road/ Bellevue Residents Association are one of the most progressive residents associations in the county.
This week they have stressed how grateful they are to Thurles Credit Union for the support shown to various projects in the estate in recent years.

In January 2023 the residents committee met up. They started to plan for the summer months and looked to address issues and identify areas for improvement in the locality. They made it their aim to upgrade planters within the area.

It was decided that eight new planters would be purchased and placed in various locations around the estate. Thurles Credit Union were approached in relation to this project and agreed to contribute generously to the overall cost of this project. On Tuesday the 4th of July a celebration took place in Moyne Road to acknowledge the continued support of Thurles Credit Union.

Tommy Barrett, who is the Chairperson of the residents committee, spoke about this event and the importance of it: “I wish to thank Thurles Credit Union for the support shown to this project.

“I wish to make it very clear, that without this support we would not be in a position to proceed with the purchasing of the planters. I also take this opportunity to acknowledge the support of Refresh Thurles Tidy Towns to various projects within our estate and in particular Treasurer John Lanigan for his continued commitment to tidy town’s in Thurles.”

In response Brian King, the CEO of Thurles Credit Union, thanked Tommy and the residents for the warm welcome. Brian congratulated all those involved with the project and said that the credit union recognised the great efforts made.

The CEO spoke of the significant change that the credit union sector is going through as well as the importance of the recent merger with Roscrea Credit Union and the credit union’s hopes for the future in terms of new products and new services.

Brian said that the more surplus the credit union can generate, the more it will have to support local groups and organisations.
His only ask on the night was that if the residents or their friends and family members are considering a loan in the future would they please make an initial enquiry to the credit union as they have very competitive rates across a wide spectrum of loan products on offer.

In response Tommy Barrett said: “We as residents are very proud of our estate and very grateful for the support we receive from residents and local businesses. It was a pleasure to have Brian King (CEO) and Amanda Ryan (Chairperson) of Thurles Credit Union in our estate to meet the residents and to see how the organisations support is benefitting our community.

“It was also wonderful that Moyne Road resident Nancy Tynan was in attendance to welcome the officials from Thurles Credit Union to our estate. Nancy has given a lifelong commitment to the Credit Union movement locally and indeed on a national level” he concluded.
