Call to name and shame irresponsible dog owners and litter louts

Dear Editor,

Over the past few weeks in your newspaper I have read submissions from Cllr. Siobhan Ambrose specifically, and from the Council in general, regarding littering and dog-fouling, and I commend Cllr. Ambrose for initiating the idea of cameras town-wide.

I don’t know HOW Clonmel managed to gain a silver medal in both Tidy Towns and Entente Florale competitions, because the town is, and in particular the paths are disgustingly filthy!

I happen to be the proud owner of a dog who is walked miles each day. I equip myself with dog-poo bags, dog treats and mints (for me) prior to each excursion. All cheap, and available locally.

More often than not we can be seen out the country, where the Marlfield ducks and swans almost address us by name.

However, it’s when we walk around the town that the problem hits us in the snout - dog-foul everywhere!

Imagine what it must be like for pedestrians, people using walking-frames or wheelchairs, parents pushing buggies, all having to contend with the amount of dog-poo on Clonmel’s paths...... A town with the potential of being the most beautiful town in Ireland.

Shame on you irresponsible dog owners and litter-louts.

The sooner a name, shame and fine system is put in place the better.

Yours sincerely,

Valerie McCabe
