Another sporting victory is being celebrated in Tipperary, this week, thanks to a great win by the Cashel New Inn hockey team that sees them top their division and secure promotion for next season.
Cashel New Inn beat Cobh last weekend by three goals to one to win the Division 3 Munster league and secure promotion to Division 2 next year.
The game was played in Rockwell in extremely blustery conditions, but it didn’t hamper the team, and supporters, enjoyment of a sweet victory.
Cashel New Inn opened the scoring within the first five minutes of the game with a well placed goal from Rachel Perdue.
This was followed by Katie Flood and Margaret Ann Cooney who made great runs up front with Elaine Crosse and Kate Molony.
Caroline Maher made a great save half way though the first half to keep the score at 1-0 but just before half time Cobh scored a goal from a short corner, to level the score at the break.
Cashel New Inn came out on to the field of play in the second half with renewed vigour, knowing that a win was vital to secure thier promotion to Divison 2.
Margaret Ann Cooney made a great run from midfield and scored from the top of the circle. There was great midfield play from Suzanne O’Connor, Cliona Sheehy, Mary Kate Shanahan and Darielle Ronan.
Cashel New Inn won another short corner and Margaret Ann scored a goal from a straight shot.
Victory was then secured and the defence of Katie O’Connor, Mary Cooney, Helen Horan and Emma Shanahan held up against the final attempts of Cobh to get back in the game.
