Carrick Town Council’s elected members have decided to lodge an objection to the Grid Link powerline.
Councillors agreed at their November meeting last week to Cllr Sylvia-Cooney-Sheehan’s request that the elected Council make a submission to Eirgrid objecting to the project. A section of Grid Link may pass through communities surrounding Carrick-on-Suir if either the K9 or K2 route corridor options are chosen as the route.
There was unanimous opposition among councillors to the proposed powerline.
Cllr Cooney Sheehan accused Eirgrid of going for the easier and cheaper option of an overhead line but she said the people wouldn’t accept this. She feared South Tipperary’s countryside and walking tourism industry will be ruined by the 46m high pylons carrying the powerline.
