A radio death announcement last week caused a bit of a stir among a certain age group in the City of the Kings - no one knew who the man was.

A radio death announcement last week caused a bit of a stir among a certain age group in the City of the Kings - no one knew who the man was.

Michael Ryan, Cashel, Cathedral St, Thurles and Templeogue, Dublin, was the son of David and Bridget Ryan and brother of Paddy, Delia and Mamie, Boherclough St and Treacy Villas, Cashel, all of whom predeceased him.

Like his father Michael was a railwayman working his way up from cleaner to fireman to engine driver, in 1940, working out of Thurles. Early retirement saw him run a business in Cathedral St, Thurles, from where he moved to Dublin.

He died on January 20, and interred in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Thurles, on January 22.

May he rest in peace.
