Cashel King Cormacs are through to the Tipperary Co Op West Junior B Hurling Championship Semi Final following their five point victory over Sean Treacys at Leahy Park Cashel on Sunday.

The old adage that goals win games certainly held true in this game as the town side popped up with one in each half, the first on twenty-seven from Dylan Fitzelle, when he latched on to a ball over the top from Michael McDermott.

The second came four minutes after the break when Willie Fitzelle’s low shot got over the line. These two goals were the main difference between the sides, coupled also with the accuracy of Dylan O’Grady in the second half.

The game was played in overcast slippery conditions, following overnight rain, but this did not take from entertainment. The sides were even enough for the opening quarter, with Sean Treacys the more economical.

Cashel squandered chances, both from play and placed balls, and trailed by 0.6 to 0.5 after twenty minutes. The first break came to the town side when Michael McDermott picked up a ball under the stand at the far end and ran at the defence.

He then put the ball over the top and Dylan Fitzelle goaled with a low shot to the corner of the net. Sean Treacys hit back with two late scores to leave the half time score, Cashel K.C. 1.5, Sean Treacys 0.8.

Donncha O’Brien pulled one back from a placed ball after the break, but Willie Fitzelle goaled at the near end after four minutes.

Dylan O’Grady then hit three points in succession to put King Cormacs five up before Donncha O’Brien hit his fourth point of the game at the three-quarter mark but again Dylan O’ Grady found his range.

Coming down the home stretch, Treacys went in search for a much-needed goal, but the Cashel defence held firm. They now play the holders, Solohead, in a semi-final.
