Tipperary trainers to the fore in the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby!

After 6 weeks of exhilarating action, tonight will see the 2023 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby Champion crowned at Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium.

Doors open tonight at the earlier time of 4.30pm with first race at 7.20pm.  Tickets can be purchased online at https://www.grireland.ie/go-greyhound-racing/our-stadiums/shelbourne-park-greyhound-stadium/  or in Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium on the night - subject to availability. 

Fans are reminded that there is no parking available in Shelbourne Park tonight, however a free Park and Ride facility will be available at Clanna Gael GAA Club, Sean Moore Road.  

The first bus is scheduled to depart at 5.00pm and leave every 10-15 minutes until the last race.

The car park is just a 10 minute from Shelbourne Park for anyone who wishes to walk. This is strictly first-come, first served, and will be closed once it is full. 

For those not making the journey you can follow the action on Virgin Media Three from 9pm – 10pm.

With five inside and a single wide seed progressing to the final of the Boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby, the draw was always going to be of real importance. 

The Jennifer O’Donnell trained The Other Kobe is the favourite tonight in the bog one, while Cappawhite based Pat Buckley trained Bens Teddy which qualified in second, just ¾ of a length behind The Other Kobe. 

Golden based Graham Holland trained Bockos Crystal which was another length back in third with her outright chances hammered into 5/1 from 16/1 despite a tricky draw in trap five on Saturday night. 

Certainly, the connections of Well Met, The Other Kobe and Music Glideaway have nothing to be worried about, while Bens Teddy and Threesixfive were always going to do things the hard way anyway so a middle draw won’t be a huge concern for their owners.

As the widest drawn of the five inside seeds, many will feel Bockos Crystal can feel aggrieved but the draw could be ideal for the flying female. With Theesixfive and Bens Teddy on her immediate inside, she could have room to race into the bend and can play a big part.

It’s a hugely competitive Derby final and one to look forward to. The all-important draw can be seen below. Best of luck to all involved.
