The Tipperary Town Senior Citizen's Christmas party took place on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Tipperary Golf Club.
Lady Captain Mary Daly and men's Captain Seamus Ryan were there to meet and greet everyone with a glass of hot punch to warm everyone up as they arrived into the clubhouse.
Senior citizens came from Emly, Dundrum, Oola, Pallasgreen, Bansha and all the surrounding areas. "This year we had four visitors from Belfast who were visiting in the area and phoned to know if they could attend," explained club secretary, Claire Ryan. "We were of course delighted to invite them and they said they would be back again next year."
The senior citizen's party has been running for approximately forty years in Tipperary Golf Club. Bishop Clifford made the opening speech and treated the crowd to a rendition of 'The Rose of Tralee'. He spoke about how the senior citizen's party was going on before he came to Tipperary Town, is still going on since his appointment as Bishop and will no doubt be going on long after him.
Following a beautiful full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and music provided by Danny Ryan, Slim Callaghan, Kieran Hickey and Paddy Cleary.
Mary and Seamus got the dancing started. From waltzes to the Siege of Ennis, many of the senior citizens put us to shame with their display of dancing. Joan Ryan (Mac) and Biddy Buckley sang a couple of songs in order to give the band a small break and Michael Tobin, Secretary/Manager of the Club, was mingling through the crowd all day taking some interesting and memorable photos for the Tipperary Golf Club website.
In her speech Lady Captain Mary Daly thanked everyone for attending the party and said how much the members of the golf club look forward to the party each year. She thanked all the ladies and members who helped in any way to make the day such a success and also thanked Liam and Sarah Brennan, the golf club's resident caterers, for all their help in presenting the food.
A very enjoyable day was had by all and a special mention to the oldest senior citizen present, Pearl Skeehan, at ninety plus years young who was on the dance floor for the finale.
