Work is now being undertaken to repair the sandstone and the rose window at the south gable of Ss Peter and Paul's Church in Clonmel, which have been badly damaged by severe weather over the years.
The damaged sandstone is being removed and replaced with new sandstone, bedded, jointed and pointed, in lime mortar. The loose mortar from joints in sandstone and limestone is being raked out and repointed in lime mortar. The stonework at the rose window is also being raked out and re-pointed.
The glass in the rose window will be re-leaded and ventilated, while storm-glazing glass will be installed in the rose window.
Other work at the church includes the installation of ramps for people with disability to access the altar. The lighting system is being upgraded and the entrance to the church is being paved with limestone and granite so that a hearse can enter the main gate.
The screens and doors in the Entrance Hall will be re-positioned to form a more welcoming area to the church, while the interior will be painted and decorated.
The priests of the parish apologise for any inconvenience caused during the renovations.
