There is a sense of urgency surrounding the future of court sittings in Tipperary Town as bookings to hold the court in the local Excel Centre will run out at the end of next month.
Local councillor Denis Leahy raised the matter at this week’s meeting of the County Council, saying local people had been very patient but now the situation was urgent.
Cllr Leahy said that the court has booked a room in the Excel Centre in the town until the end of February, while the town courthouse has been closed because of a need for extensive repair works.
“People have been very patient but it has been going on far too long,” the local councillor said, adding that local solicitors have even met with local builders to discuss how best to rectify the situation.
Cllr Leahy criticised a figure of €2.5 million which had been put on repair work, describing it as “an outrage” and saying “a lot of work could be done for €100,000.”
