Some of the cast in costume this week in Cashel
Tipperary’s reputation as a world beating movie location was further cemented this week with a two-day shoot at the Rock of Cashel for a major television blockbuster.
In excess of 150 crew and cast descended on the Rock and locals came out in great numbers drawn to the excitement of the battle scene action taking place on the south facing slope outside the walls, which is not owned by the OPW, who operate the tourist attraction.
The Rock will be used heavily as a backdrop to the filming and, according to Martin Lynch, President of Cashel Chamber of Commerce, the publicity it will give to the town will be hugely beneficial to the area.
Hope are that it will do for Cashel what Star Wars did for Skellig Michael.
Reportedly starring MacKensie Crook from The Office and Pirates of the Caribbean, the pilot show for The Wayfinders, a US-backed venture, is about a teenager in a High School getting transported to a medieval land and going on a quest.
It is understood that for the two-day shoot, the cast and crew were being bussed into the town, along with outside caterers.
Glen Winter - the well-known television director, producer and cinematographer of Smallville, Arrow and The Flash - is also part of the production.
Filming commenced in Cashel on Monday and continued all day Tuesday before the crew and cast were due to travel to Cahir Castle where filming is set to continue later into the week.
