The first three men home in the Co Intermediate Cross Country Championship at Moyne: Louis Rice, Fethard AC (third), Dermot Gorman, Carrick-on-Suir AC (first) and Barry Hartnett Dundrum AC (second)
The County Uneven Ages and Intermediate Cross Country Champion took place in Moyne Sunday last at the Castle Field. Last time this course was used by Moyne for championship cross country was the NACAI All-Ireland in 1998.
The course was challenging over several sections and a little muddy in parts but considering the rain that had fallen the past few weeks the ground was in very good condition. The sun shone and it was very warm by the time the women & men’s race went to the line.
Great credit must go to Moyne AC on setting out the course, the landowners for offering this course, all the volunteers and the Tipperary County Board along with the guidance of Owen Fanning Chairperson for making this such a great event.
Competing for Fethard AC were Paula Hendriksen, Carol Molloy, Louis Rice, Fintan Rice, John Hurley, Emmet McNamara and MJ Croke.
After the juvenile and junior races finished the women’s 5km race started with a very competitive field .
Paula placed 9th overall with a sprint finish with Marina from Clonmel AC which led to a very exciting finish. Both Carol (15th) and Paula acquitted themselves very well considering they are only running cross country a few weeks. They both are enjoying the experience of cross country running.
The Fethard AC mens team of Louis Rice (3rd), Emmet McNamara (4th) Fintan Rice (13th) and John Hurley (32rd) secured the third team prize after a count back. Great running by all which makes this another historic day for the club with our 1st bronze team Intermediate xc medal today.
Louis Rice finished third overall to secure his first bronze medal in intermediate cross country, with all the hard work been done under senior coach John Laste. It’s super to come home with another title and silverware for the club.
Congratulations to everyone we may be a small club but we are moving along nicely.
Thank you to all who took photos and supported the Fethard AC on the day, Tony, John, Susan and Teresa who were dotted around the course.
We also wish a speedy recovery to MJ who had to withdraw due a slight injury.
