GOAL says thank you to 17 schools in Tipperary who lined out for Jersey Day last Friday!

A huge effort was made by schools right across Ireland

Over 400 schools across Ireland took part in Jersey Day last Friday, 13th Oct.

On that day, schoolgoers swapped their uniforms for their favourite sports jerseys (representing GAA, rugby, soccer, hockey, and many other sports), wore that jersey into school with pride, had some fun doing so and gave a donation to GOAL’s humanitarian aid work across Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.

In support of Jersey Day 2023 last week, Minister Jospeha Madigan, T.D., kindly stepped out of Leinster House and teamed up with Isabella Rossney (aged six years) from Booterstown National School and Jonathan Rockett (aged six years) from Scoil San Treasa, Mount Merrion, Co. Dublin.

Speaking about Minister Madigan’s generous support, Eamon Sharkey, GOAL’s Director of Fundraising and Comms, said, ‘Jersey Day is a real favourite in the schools’ calendar, and we were thrilled that Jersey Day 2023 saw 380 schools across Ireland participating.

Jersey Day also has a perfect link to Minister Madigan’s portfolio in the Department of Education and a perfect link to our Global Citizenship agenda, which we promote across the national and junior school network”.

“Through our Global Citizenship education programme, we aim to make our contribution to raising a generation of Global Citizens who understand and critically reflect on our interconnected world and who can act in pursuit of a fairer, more equal, and sustainable world for all” continued Eamon Sharkey.

Jersey Day 2023 was generously supported by Folens, Ireland’s leading schoolbook publisher.
