Clodiagh Rangers easily account for Rearcross in league derby clash

North Tipperary District League - Division 2

Clodiagh Rangers B 4

Rearcross B 2

The magnificent facilities of Rearcross FC's home ground were the venue for Sunday’s fixture between old rivals in the NTDL Division 2 league tie.

Clodiagh began brightly with a revamped midfield of Blaine Carroll and the excellent Pa Dwyer providing some good chances for the away strikers, only to be denied by some acrobatics from the Rearcross keeper.

Clodiagh finally broke the deadlock on 27 minutes through the useful Michael Quinlan who was the first to pounce on a loose clearance from a corner to drill the ball into the net from close quarters.

Jim Dwyer was next up for Clodiagh when he latched onto Dylan O’Grady’s superb through ball and finished neatly into the bottom corner to open his Clodiagh account.

The second half began brightly for Rearcross and Clodiagh had to weather a strong ten minutes from the home side, Mikey Griffin pulling off some important saves to keep a two-goal lead for the visitors. Rian Treacy also stepped up with some important headers and challenges.

On 61 minutes Rearcross managed to pull one back through Kieran Devitt. Clodiagh made some key changes in midfield which created an impetus and as Rearcross pushed for an equaliser gaps began to appear at the back. Oisin Treacy extended Clodiagh’s lead in the 71st minute when he dinked the ball over the onrushing keeper.

Jim Dwyer finished the game as a contest in the 81st when he capitalised on a goalkeeping error to put Clodiagh three ahead with only minutes remaining.

Rearcross took another consolation in the dying seconds when Rob Harrington too took advantage of a goalkeeping error to lend the scoreline some respectability.
