CBS HIGHS SCHOOL CLONMEL 3-12 KENMARE CS 1-11

The High School CBS (Clonmel) opened their Munster senior football campaign with a hard-fought win over a strong Kenmare team coached by Kerry inter-county star Seán O’Shea at Bishopstown 4G in Cork last week.
These were two teams with talent all over the pitch but both struggled to find their rhythm in the early exchanges as scores were hard to come by for both teams in the opening 10 minutes.
Kenmare scored first with a well-taken point before the game sprung to life. Tadgh Walsh opened the High School account with a fine goal which was quickly followed by another 1-1 by the CBS forward line to give them an early lead.
The exchanges were highly competitive; both sides played some good football with a Kenmare goal just before the break leaving the scoreline 2-5 to 1-6 in favour of the High School at the short whistle.
The second half began as did the first with plenty of physicality and tackling on show. Both defences scrambled really well to keep the scoring in check in what was a very open game as the second half progressed.
The High School, having played well, were only three points up with 10 minutes to go when Kenmare missed a great goal opportunity.
The county Tipperary side punished this missed chance with scores from James Power, Liam Freaney and Jack Bourke seeing the High School finishing the game stronger to win by seven points in the end.
CBS High School will face another Kerry school in IS Killorglin in two weeks time in the quarter-final of the Corn Dhonncha Uí Nuanáin .
