Mike Rosney from Tipperary might have found his match after the 26-year-old Garda hit it off with his date on last Thursday’s episode of RTE’s ‘First Dates Ireland.’
Single for the past six years, Mike had a good visit to the capital for the show where he met Yasemin, a 25-year-old of Turkish descent, and the pair had plenty in common to talk about during the date.
Before the pair met up in Dublin’s Coda Restaurant, Mike admitted that he would like to meet someone with similar interests, someone who “likes to be active and would almost drag me out the door,” he said.
Luckily for him, retail manager Yasemin from Belfast felt the same beforehand and said she hates being at home and loves to travel and be out and about.
After being seated for their meal, the pair got off to some small talk initially and Mike admitted to never having tried Turkish cuisine after asking Yasemin what side of her family her Turkish heritage comes from.
Mike did reveal that he had tried Turkish coffee before and Yasemin educated him on the subject before the Roscrea man explained how his great-grandmother used to read tea leaves when she was alive.
A proud Garda, Mike went on to open up about growing up as an only child and how it ensured that he grew up a lot closer to his parents as a result.
The date going well at this point, Yasemin then opened up about her recent weight loss journey, explaining that she lost six stone in just one year after the Covid pandemic. “It was a difficult journey but I feel so much better about myself,” she explained.
Things look slightly dodgy after Yasemin goes for a phone call with a friend and admits that Mike isn’t her usual type, while the opposite is true of Mike who seemed more than happy with his lot on the date to the waitress
“She is my usual type,” he confessed and he also went on to say that he’d “struggle to approach someone that good-looking” in normal circumstances.
The moment of truth came shortly afterward when the pair sat side by side to answer the all-important question of whether they would like to meet up romantically in the future.
Likely nervous about the answer, Mike was spared any agony when Yasemin said she would like to meet him again for another date, saying “He seems really interesting and I feel there’s more that I’d like to get to know about him. While Mike played all his cards by agreeing to another date and saying “I couldn’t stop smiling the whole time.”
In the closing credits of the episode it was good news for the pair as a picture of them on another date on what looked like a walk on the coast somewhere flashed on screen, and there might just be a happily ever after for the Tipperary man after his punt appearing on the show!
