Tipperary granny in her 70s will skydive with son next month to raise funds for Gaza

An Irish woman in her 70s is planning to skydive with her son this February to raise funds for Gaza.

Nenagh grandmother, Mary McDonnell (75), is doing the 10,000 foot skydive this February 11 with her son Michael in order to highlight the "utter devastation" suffered by the Palestinian people and to raise money for two grassroots organisations based in Gaza.

It comes following ongoing conflict in the Israel Palestine region since the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023.

According to the pair's Go Fund Me campaign, which launched last week, all funds raised will go towards Medical Aid for Palestinians and Palestine Children's Relief Fund.

Both Mary - who was born in 1948, the same year as the establishment of the state of Israel - and Michael have been longstanding supporters of the plight of the Palestinian people.

They are both founding members of Nenagh Friends of Palestine, which was established in 2014 after a previous bombing campaign by Israel that year.

The fundraiser has raised over €6,000 out of a €10,000 goal since its launch last week thanks to 111 donors.
