Electric Ireland All-Ireland Minor A Camogie Championship - Round 4
Tipperary 3-4
Cork 2-10
The Tipperary minor's unbeaten run in 2024 came to an end on Sunday in the County Camogie Grounds when a hungrier Cork side earned a three-point victory in the Electric Ireland Minor Championship.
Cork hit the ground running with two quick points in the opening three minutes from wing forward Rachel Murphy.
Tipp were struggling to break down the Cork defence but when their first score did come in the 17th minute it was a goal from Danielle Ryan to put John Ryan’s side into a one-point lead. Three minutes later Cork were stunned by a second Tipperary goal.
This time from Eabha Dolan. Cork got the final 2 scores of the half with points from Ava McAulliffe and Lucy O’Connell to leave the score at the break Tipperary had two goals Cork four points.
Cork opened the scoring in the second half with a pointed free from the excellent Orlaith Cremin. Tipp responded with a Lucy Purcell score but a minute later Amy Shepherd raised a green flag for the visitors. Just as Tipp did in the first half Cork followed up this goal with a second goal thanks to Orlaith Cremin to put Cork in a commanding lead 2-5 to 2-1.
By now Cork were dominant all over the field hitting the next four points in succession to make it 2-10 to 2-1 after 52 minutes. Rachel Murphy’s point was followed by two scores from Orlaith Cremin with Ailish Scanlan striking what was to be their final score of the game to put 9 between the teams. Tipperary came to life in the final 10 minutes to hit 1-3 without reply and reduce the deficit right down to just three points.
The goal came in the 62nd minute from Thurles Sarsfield’s Lucy Purcell. For Tipp Sarah Corcoran and Caithylyn Treacy were very good in the half backline while Paula Quirke impressed at corner back.
While Tipperary had already secured a semi-final spot before Sunday’s encounter they will no doubt be disappointed by their performance as they looked off the pace with Cork much sharper on the day. They have one group game left this Sunday away to Waterford at 2 pm.
