New 'Irish Gothic ' exhibition opens to the public this Friday in Clonmel

Irish Gothic, the works of Patricia Hurl , runs until Friday 21st June

South Tipperary Arts Centre (STAC), in partnership with Tipperary Arts Office and the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), is delighted to bring  a major retrospective of work by Patricia Hurl, Irish Gothic, to Clonmel, Co.Tipperary.

Hurl studied at the National College of Art & Design and in 1984 she won the Norah McGuinness Award for Painting and was the recipient of the Pollock Krasner Award in 2023. Together with Therry Rudin, she established the Damer House Gallery in Co.Tipperary in 2012.

Irish Gothic is one of two exhibitions that will take place in Tipperary during May and June at STAC, Clonmel and the Source, Thurles, with both curated by Helena Tobin and selected from a major retrospective hosted by IMMA last Spring. “Patricia Hurl is a hugely important Irish artist and we are thrilled to be able to bring works from her 2023 IMMA retrospective, Irish Gothic, to Tipperary audiences” says Helena.

Irish Gothic presents the work of one of Ireland’s most accomplished artists. Hurl’s work is by its nature political, and traverses the disciplines of painting, multi-media, and collaborative art practice. Since the 1980s, she has created work that deals with loss, pain, frustration, and loneliness.

Presented in association with Irish Museum of Modern Art and supported by the Arts Council of Ireland and Tipperary Arts Office.
