Members of the Barrett family with the Cup : L-R : Sean Barrett, Tommy Barrett Jnr, Tommy Barrett Snr and Laura Barrett
Long serving Tipperary GAA secretary Tommy Barrett had his memory honoured over the weekend with the Division 1 Tipperary Feile na nGael trophy renamed in his honour.
He served as Tipperary County Secretary from 1963-1999 and played a key role in the developments of Semple Stadium throughout his involvement in the GAA.
The former Tipperary and Thurles Sarsfields hurler played a huge role in securing the Centenary All-Ireland in 1984 for Thurles and clearing the debt across the 1980s in Semple Stadium as well as ensuring the stadium developed in a modern sustainable way.
The establishment of Dr. Morris Park was also part of his lasting legacy and the time he put into the GAA across the decades was unprecedented.
Back in 1971 Tommy was a founding member of Feile na nGael along with Seamus O Riain and Eamon De Stafort.
It offered a new competition for emerging hurlers in the county to display their talents in and over the following years it became a huge competition broadening in appeal on a regular basis.
Currently it is the biggest GAA competition for emerging stars. This year's competition featured thousands of players and after a superb competition in recent weeks, Newport were crowned the first winners of the Tommy Barrett Cup.
