Philly Ryan looks set to be announced as the new Tipperary football manager

Former Tipperary goalkeeper Philly Ryan is now in pole position to be the new Tipperary senior football manager with an announcement expected over the coming days.

The Clonmel Commercials club member has extensive management experience and he is proposed by the Tipperary Football Committee to take over the reins at the helm of Tipperary football with the announcement set to be made at an upcoming meeting.

He will take over the role from Paul Kelly who was in charge for the 2024 season. The playing group will contain some of the 2020 Munster senior champions however the team has changed significantly since then and the upcoming club championships which get underway at the weekend will be a platform for players to impress. . 

Philly Ryan began playing for the Tipperary seniors in 1991 and continued to line out in the number one jersey uintil 2003. Following that he was involved with successful underage Tipperary teams as a selector of the county under 21s in 2006 and then the minors in the following two seasons.

 He became involved in the management of Clonmel Commercials as a coach and selector as well as manager when he led them to the county title in 2012. 

At the recent Tipperary County Board meeting, Niall Fitzgerald was ratified as the manager of the under 20 football side while last years minor joint managers Shane Hennessy and Damien McCormack have both been ratified to continue in their roles as well.
