What a day it was for Katie Bergin in Tullamore on Saturday. The Moyne AC sprinter got her day up and running in heat 2 of the U23 100m when she took to the blocks in lane four against six other athletes.

At the end of the race she crossed the line in the blustery conditions in a time of 12.09 seconds to take the win in the heat. Katie’s time in the heat was also the fastest out of all of the 12 U23 athletes taking part in the 100m across the two heats.

There was no time to rest as the star sprinter was back into the blocks at quarter past one to take part in the final of the 100m. Adeyemi Talabi of Longford A.C. was quickest out of the blocks and had a convincing lead with a couple of meters to run, but come of the time come of the moment Katie Bergin closed the gap and crossed the line in first place with a time of 11.93 to retain her National U23 100m T&F crown.

Katie’s day wasn’t finished there. At half past three the Moyne athletic star took to the blocks for the third time of the day in the 200m. This time Katie lined up in lane 5 of heat 1 and once again crossed the line in first place in her heat. Caoimhe Cronin of Le Chéile A.C. was marginally faster than Katie in the second heat so an exciting final awaited.

Back to lane 5 Katie went for the final. Once again the Tipperary dynamo was the winner claiming gold with an excellent time of 24.54 ahead of Caoimhe Cronin of Le Chéile A.C. and Aisling Kelly of U.C.D. A.C.

Incredibly Katie has 9 out of 12 U23 T&F gold sprint medals that have been up for grabs in the last three years. It is great to see the Tipperary starlet back on the track returning to her best.
