Tipperary County Council is to get behind a move to have Semple Stadium involved as a rugby world cup venue in 2023.
Sinn Fein’s David Doran told a meeting of the authority that he welcomed the GAA coming on board to assist the IRFU’s bid to host the World Cup. Semple Stadium, he said, would be an excellent venue.
“Up to 400,000 people would come to the country, with worldwide audiences. Tipperary County Council should be unanimously behind this bid.” said Cllr.Doran.
Chairman Michael Fitzgerald supported the idea.
A motion will be formally tabled at the January meeting of Tipperary County Council supporting the bid.
