BREAKING: Laois GAA set to propose another Tipperary man as new manager of senior hurlers

Laois GAA has announced that their selection committee has recommended a new senior hurling manager and they will once again be looking to Tipperary to fill that vacancy.

In a statement released this evening, Laois GAA confirmed that Darren Gleeson has been nominated for the role.

Gleeson, a native of Tipperary, previously managed Antrim.

Laois GAA stated, “The Laois GAA Executive Committee is delighted to propose Tipperary's Darren Gleeson as the new Laois Senior Hurling Manager. This recommendation is pending approval by Club Delegates at the upcoming County Committee Meeting.”

Darren Gleeson played as a goalkeeper for Tipperary from 2008 to 2017, winning All-Ireland titles in 2010 and 2016 before retiring from inter-county hurling in 2017.

Gleeson took over as Antrim's manager in 2020, achieving immediate success.

Under his leadership, Antrim won the 2020 National Hurling League Division 2A title by defeating Kerry 2-23 to 2-20 in the final.

They also claimed the 2020 Joe McDonagh Cup with a 0-22 to 1-17 victory over Kerry at Croke Park.

Although Antrim was relegated in 2021, they bounced back to win the Joe McDonagh Cup again in 2022.

Gleeson helped Antrim retain their senior status in 2023 and once more this year before stepping down.

Details about his potential backroom team have not yet been disclosed.
