CAMOGIE: Tipperary junior championships are ultra competitive this year

The Junior A championship is in full swing.

What serious competitions the junior camogie championships are proving to be with real quality at all grades ensuring exciting competitions. The full list of how things look now is below.

Junior A
Drom-Inch’s second team are struggling with injuries and loss of players to their senior squad and had no response to a very strong Gortnahoe Glengoole outfit captained by Sophie Pembroke at centre back.

Gortnahoe raced into an early lead and ran out convincing 4-19 to 1-06 winners. In the other game in the group Kiladangan continued their impressive form with a win at home to St Rita’s Fethard. Fethard pushed the homeside all the way but Kiladangan were deserving winners 3-07 to 1-09.

Templemore had their first win of the Junior Championship beating Ballina 12 points to 4 in Clonmore at the weekend. Ballina battled hard throughout in their best performance of the year but failed to convert enough possession.

Last year’s beaten finalist Holycross Ballycahill are fully focussed on gaining promotion this year and were in excellent form in their win over Lorrha. Holycross got off to a blistering start to lead at half time 2-11 to 5 points.

Both goals came from the excellent Steph Dwan while Lorna O’Dwyer, Elana McGrath and Lauren McCormack all got first half points. Celine Cleary was accurate from frees for Lorrha while Clodagh McIntyre goaled in the second half.

Holycross continued to dominate the game however with a third goal coming this time from Elana McGrath and further points from Michelle Dwan, Lorna O’Dwyer, Lauren McCormack, Steph Dwan and Caoimhe Stakelum.

Junior B
The Junior B championships is continuing to produce some highly entertaining games and round 3 was no different. Roscrea recorded a fantastic win over last years beaten finalists Moyle Rovers who were short some key regulars.

The full time score was 3-07 to 1-04. Carrick Swans had a successful trip to Dolla coming away with a 1-10 to 8 point victory. Goals were the difference in Ballingarry as Portroe had a narrow win over the homeside 3-02 to 7 points. While in the final game of the weekend Clonoulty Rossmore defeated Eire Og Annacarty 3-18 to 2-03.

Junior B2

In Round 3 of the Junior B2 Championship Shannon Rovers had a narrow 1 point victory over Borris-Ileigh on Sunday morning scoring 1-03 to Borris-ileigh’s 5 points.

Moycarkey Borris had another impressive result outscoring Kickhams 4-15 to 2-01. Holycross Ballycahill were away to Burgess Duharra but came away with all the points winning 2-16 to 2-06. While Kiladangan defeated Moneygall 2-11 to 1-07.

Junior C
There was only one game this weekend in the Junior C championship and that was the meeting of Rockwell Rovers and St Patricks. The game took place on Friday evening in New Inn with St Patrick’s despite conceding 4 goals running out winners 3 14 to 4-01.

This Sunday sees the meeting of St Patrick’s and Slieve Felim in a repeat of this year’s league final where Slieve Felim recorded a narrow victory.
