The site for the Ballingarrane Business, Science and Technology Campus
A planning application has been lodged for a development at the Ballingarrane Business, Science and Technology Campus at Ballingarrane on the outskirts of Clonmel.
Pratum BST is seeking permission for an “advanced building solution” consisting of office and light industrial/production spaces.
Permission is also sought from Tipperary County Council for a vehicular/pedestrian entrance, signage, car parking, cycle shelters, landscaping, an underground water storage tank, an independent ESB substation and switch room building, a central utility building, external plant compound, an access road and all associated site works.
Welcoming the news, Deputy Michael Murphy said that this planning process began and was announced back in November 2022.
“While delayed, it is still very welcome news and I have been chasing this for some time,” said Deputy Murphy.
At the time, it was stated by the county council that “the Ballingarrane site commands a high profile location of approximately 250 acres immediately north of the N24 Waterford to Limerick national primary route on the outskirts if Clonmel.
“The site has been identified as a suitable area for the sustainable development of a strategic business, science and technology campus and has the ability to cater for the full spectrum of development opportunities, ranging from start-ups to spin outs, second stage funded companies through to the largest multinational organisations.
“Clonmel is already host to a range of blue chip indigenous and international companies, collectively employing over 4,000 people in manufacturing facilities in Clonmel and its immediate hinterland.
“Pratum BST, which has been mandated by IDA Ireland and Tipperary County Council to act as the contracting authority for this project, aims to facilitate and provide for the sustainable development of strategic enterprise, knowledge intensive, technology-based industries and large scale employers in the Ballingarrane Business, Science and Technology Park.
“This includes the provision of research and development/innovation facilities, which would support enterprise and employment”.
