An ambulance on a call to Thurles was involved in a collision with a car near Templemore Motor Works on Sunday last shortly after mid-day.
Both vehicles careered onto the footpath and crashed into a large sign at the corner. There was no patient in the ambulance. Luckily neither the 2 ambulance personnel nor the car occupants – a father and son were seriously injured. Templemore Fire Brigade as well as Thurles Brigade and other emergency services were on the scene as well as a number of Gardai. Richmond road was closed for a several hours, with traffic which was busy on account of the match in Thurles, being diverted towards the Garda College and Golf Club area. A Helicopter landed in the nearby Garda College with medical crew to assess those injured who were eventually taken to hospital by ambulance.
In another occurrence at the weekend Templemore Fire Services were called to a mishap on the Templemore/Ragg Road when a lady in her 80’s was involved in a collision with a car occupied by a mother and her two daughters. Again, thankfully, there were no major injuries and nobody had to go to hospital.
