The school’s third Comenius Assistant Teresa Espinosa Andreu, from the Valencia region of Spain began her time in the school in October. St John the Baptist Boys have also commenced Comenius partnership with schools in the UK, Sweden, Hungary, Poland and Italy. The title of their project is “Europe’s Cultural Wealth in Legends, Stories and Myths” and involves travel to and from our school amongst the participant countries.

The expectation is that the project will help the boys to become more aware of other countries and cultures, as well as helping them to work collaboratively with pupils across Europe using new digital media.

Comenius aims to Comenius aims to improve and increase the mobility of pupils and educational staff across the EU. Staff members have already travelled in the last year to Sweden, England and Poland.

Last month principal Will Ryan, Sharon Perdue, Monica Slattery and Gail O’Keeffe travelled to Italy as part of the Comenius exchange and delegates from the participating schools will travel to Cashel for St Patrick’s day in March. The boys in school have been busy learning about myths and legends from other countries and sending cars and letters to the other schools. In conjunction with the other schools a CD was produced which included a verse of Silent Night in the National language of each school. The school sold the CDs for €2 each and on the last day of assembly, Lucy Ryan Vice-Principal presented Mrs Mary Connolly from Cashel St Vincent de Paul Society with a cheque for €300 for the Christmas Appeal.

Thanks to all the teachers who supported this project, and to all the boys and girls from across Europe for sharing their musical talents!
