Although born in England, MacGowan spent much of his childhood in Tipperary, visiting his mother’s homeplace. The trail includes stops in Carney, Kilbarron, Nenagh, Borrisokane, and along the Shannon, as well as smaller villages and boreens that featured in his early years.

A downloadable brochure allows people to follow the tour at their own pace. It guides visitors through the towns, countryside, and landmarks that shaped MacGowan’s memories and inspired his lyrics.

The tour was launched at the Broad Majestic Shannon Festival and is now open to locals and visitors alike. It offers an opportunity to connect with MacGowan’s strong ties to Tipperary and to see the county through the lens of his life and music.
