Moyne Templetuohy’s hopes of overturning their controversial penalty shoot-out defeat to Solohead were ended on Wednesday night after the Munster Council rejected the club’s latest appeal.

The decision upholds an earlier ruling by the Tipperary CCC and confirms Solohead’s progression to the FBD Insurance Junior B Hurling Championship semi-finals.
Moyne Templetuohy lodged their initial appeal after being allowed to take only four penalties in the shoot-out, while Solohead were permitted five. The quarter-final in Drombane in late October had finished 1-22 each after extra-time before Solohead advanced.
The dispute centred on the list of designated penalty takers submitted before the shoot-out. Moyne Templetuohy had mistakenly included the wrong player, and the referee refused to accept a correction once the list had been handed in.
Both sides scored one penalty in the first round with Solohead converting one from five and Moyne Templetuohy one from four before Solohead prevailed in sudden death.
Moyne Templetuohy argued that the player they intended to include had been on the field at the end of extra-time and was therefore eligible.
The Tipperary CCC, and now the Munster Council, both ruled that the referee applied the regulations correctly. Competition rules state that penalty taker lists may only be changed in the event of a dismissal during the shoot-out or if a goalkeeper is injured and must be replaced.
Wednesday night’s verdict brings the matter to a close unless Moyne Templetuohy pursue any further avenue, and it clears the way for Solohead to join Carrick Swans, Silvermines and Thurles Sarsfields in the last four.
