Donie Nealon has been proposed as the new President of the Tipperary County Board following the passing earlier this year of his former senior hurling teammate Matt Hassett.

The nomination was put forward at Wednesday night's Tipperary County Board meeting.
Nealon, one of Tipperary’s most respected hurlers and a three-time All-Ireland winner, was a central figure in the county’s golden era of the late 1950s and 1960s.
The proposal carries an added layer of poignancy given Nealon’s close connection to Hassett, who captained Tipperary to the 1961 All-Ireland title and served as County Board President until his death earlier this year.
The two were teammates and contributors to the county’s administrative life, and many within Tipperary GAA view Nealon’s potential appointment as a fitting continuation of that legacy.
Delegates are expected to give formal consideration to the proposal at the next County Board gathering.
