The Munster Council made the decision “due to capacity constraints at some venues, along with the expected demand from our clubs”.
Instead, tickets for the matches – Tipperary v Cork and Clare v Waterford on April 19, Cork v Limerick and Waterford v Tipperary on April 26, Clare v Limerick on May 3 and Waterford v Cork on May 9 – will be distributed exclusively by the county boards.
“This approach reflects the fact that four of the first six games are being hosted in smaller-capacity venues,” Munster GAA explained.
“While the other two games involve Cork, Limerick and Tipperary, with the first round game between Tipperary and Cork being a repeat of last year's All-Ireland final.
“Any unused or returned tickets from county boards will be released for public sale on the Wednesday prior to each game.”
For Tipperary supporters, the move means the opening round clash with Cork in Thurles and the Round 2 trip to face Waterford on April 26 will be accessed through county allocations rather than general sale.
Tickets for the final two rounds of the championship will go on general public sale on April 8. As usual, competing counties will receive allocations for those games.
A record 329,299 people attended the Munster SHC’s 11 games in 2025, a figure which was up 4% from 2024. The competition’s gate receipts of €8.381 million also surpassed previous returns.
Last year, clubs in the five counties had first refusal on tickets for games. Only when club requests were satisfied were tickets made available to the public. In 2024 and 2025, Cork GAA had given their clubs priority access.
Season ticket holders will be allocated their tickets as before while a limited number of juvenile group admissions (40 per club) will be available for all matches aside from those in Zimmer Biomet Páirc Chíosóg.
After two successive years of increases, ticket prices for the championship have been frozen for 2026. Adult stand admission is €35, terrace €30, while students and old age pensioners can enter the stands for €30 and terraces for €25. Under 16 tickets are €5.
GAA+ and RTÉ are expected to announce shortly which Munster SHC games will be streamed and televised. As they are Saturday games, the Waterford v Cork Round 3 game in Azzurri Walsh Park on May 9 and the Tipperary v Clare Round 4 fixture in FBD Semple Stadium are expected to be shown on GAA+.
RTÉ are expected to show Cork’s first two games, the rerun of the 2025 All-Ireland final in Thurles on the opening day followed by the visit of Limerick to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Round 2.
