The governor's house at Nenagh Gaol
The next winter talk at Ormond Historical Society will be given by Dr Conor Reidy on The First Children of Nenagh Gaol, on Monday, December 5, in the Abbey Court Hotel, at 8pm.
The talk arises from a broad study, The Children of the Pre-Famine Era Prison in Ireland.
When Nenagh Gaol opened in 1842, children made up a small but consistent part of the inmate population.
By 1847, hundreds of young people had been incarcerated for a wide variety of reasons.
