Tipp club proposes motion to eliminate throwing of sliotar in hurling ahead of convention

Nenagh Éire Óg have sent forward a proposal to this year's Tipperary GAA convention, to try and eliminate the throwing of the ball from the game of hurling.

Ahead of next Sunday’s Tipperary GAA Convention, secretary Tim Floyd has once again compiled a very detailed and comprehensive review of all GAA activities during 2022, with Nenagh's proposal a standout motion which has been driven by former Tipperary All-Ireland winning full back Conor O'Donovan.

O'Donovan has been outspoken on how he feels the hand pass rule has been manipulated by teams in the modern game, and that throwing of the ball has become common place. The full wording of the proposal from the north Tipperary club is as follows:

In order to definitively eliminate ball throwing from the sport of hurling, Nenagh Éire Óg GAA Club put forward a motion to Tipperary County GAA Board Convention, to be voted on in Congress, for the introduction of an addition Technical Foul - Rule 4.2(c). The wording of rule 4.2(c) will state that it is a foul: to either hand-pass the ball or palm the ball directly from the same hand that is holding the ball" (Nenagh Eire Óg).

The proposal will be heard at next Sunday's convention.
