Bookies announce odds on front runners to replace Ryan Tubridy

'When a bus like Prime Time comes along, you have to get on it': Longford's Fran McNulty looks forward to Prime Time role

The front runners to replace Ryan Tubridy

Ladbrokes bookies has installed Oliver Callan as the favourite to replace Ryan Tubridy on his RTÉ radio one morning show.

RTE’s director-general Kevin Bakhurst announced on Thursday night that there are now no plans for Tubridy, formerly RTE’s highest-paid star, to return to his presenting role at the Irish national broadcaster.

The impersonator behind the Callan’s Kicks sketch show had been keeping the seat warm in the immediate aftermath of the payment’s scandal fallout and following confirmation this week that Tubridy won’t be returning to his RTE morning show, the bookies make Callan the even money favourite to take over the role permanently.

Brendan Courtney, who is currently covering the slot is also very much in the mix as things stand at 6/4.

There are several other famous names in the mix for the much-prized radio gig.  Anton Savage, a popular weekend presenter on Newstalk is a 3/1 shot, while Miriam O’Callaghan and Sarah McInerney are sitting at 4/1 and 5/1 respectively.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: "Since RTE announced that Ryan Tubridy won’t be returning to the airwaves, we have been inundated with bets on a potential replacement for the veteran broadcaster. As things stand, it looks like it could be two-horse race between Oliver Callan and Brendan Courtney for the morning radio hot-seat!"

The odds

Evens Oliver Callan, 6/4 Brendan Courtney, 3/1 Anton Savage, 4/1 Miriam O’Callaghan, 5/1 Sarah McInerney, 8/1 Kathryn Thomas, 8/1 Brendan O’Connor, 20/1 Muireann O’Connell, 33/1 Colette Fitzpatrick, 33/1 Angela Scanlon.
