The polling date for two upcoming referenda on family and care has been confirmed.
The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien TD, today (January 24) announced polling for the two referenda on proposals to amend the Constitution will take place on International Women's Day (Friday March 8, 2024).
The proposed amendments to the Constitution include a change to Article 41 to provide a wider concept of family and remove Article 41.2 to remove mention of the role of women being in the home, as well as a new Article 42B to recognise family care.
It will be the 39th Amendment of the Constitution (The Family) Bill 2023 and the 40th Amendment of the Constitution (Care) Bill 2023.
Polling will take place between the hours of 7am and 10pm.
Anyone wishing to cast a vote must be an Irish citizen (aged 18 or over on polling day) and registered on the Register of Electors.
The registration process has changed since the last referendum and everyone is encouraged to check that their details are correct and up to date at checktheregister.ie.
