Driver with bald tyres never held a full driving licence in 32 years of driving

Four passengers crammed into the back of a car resulted in a nasty surprise for the driver.

The Garda Roads Policing Unit in Cork City checked out the car after spotting four passengers in the back instead of three.

"32 years on the road but the driver has never had a full licence, and these tyres were a road traffic incident waiting to happen," a social media post from gardaí outlined.

The photos of the tyres show them to be particularly bald.

It is an offence under the Road Traffic Act to drive with defective or worn tyres.

The offence attracts a fine of €80 and 2 penalty points if the fixed charge is paid within 28 days. However, the offence can incur 4 penalty points and a more significant fine can be imposed if it goes to court because of non-payment.
